Brass, Wind & Wire
We are an adult community band comprised of players of all ages and from all walks of life. We share a common love of playing an instrument in a concerted effort to provide enjoyment for ourselves and the masses.
Formed in 2011 as a place for adults to congregate and enhance their playing and performing skills with a concert band instrument of their choice, whether it be an instrument they haven't touched since high school, one they dabble with once in a while or one they have always wanted to learn to play.
The group provides a no pressure environment that allows players to interact and collaborate while still managing to pull together a repertoire to perform a small intimate concert or two at the end of each season. It's a place where you don't have to worry about making the odd 'squeak' or 'squack' with your instrument. It's a place where as long as you put an honest effort into learning, listening and practising and are willing to be nudged out of your comfort zone once in a while, you will be guided on the road to becoming a better musician.
We rehearse in the community of Delta, BC in the Music Room of the Delta Secondary School in Ladner, through the Delta School District - Continuing Education Program. Check out the 'Join Us' section for more information on how you can become a member of this awesome band!

Brenda Khoo
Founder and Music Director
Brenda is the conductor and fearless leader of the band.
She has an extensive music background and has led the band since forming it in 2011.
Her exposure to music began at the age of 12 when she took up a flute which her parents had purchased for her in Grade 7. After struggling a bit initially, she stuck with it and eventually became a skilled player. By Grade 9 however she developed tendonitis and had to switch instruments. She chose the tenor saxophone, the instrument that 'called' to her and played it throughout high school, along with the flute, baritone saxophone, piccolo and bells.
Although her original goal was to major in saxophone in university, her unsuccessful application turned out to be a blessing in disguise as she entered the Faculty of Education instead. She played bass clarinet in the symphony while obatining her B.Ed in Instrumental Music and English.
Brenda has been teaching concert bands since 1994 at the beginner and intermediate level. She believes that music connects people and enhances their lives and that it is never too late to learn to play an instrument. It is her passion to share music through teaching and performing to all those who are willing.
Brenda currently plays French horn for the Delta Music Makers band and is the teacher and conductor of three community concert bands: Brass Wind and Wire, Beginner Adult and one for elementary/high school students.
Her motto? "It is never too late to blow your horn".
